Student Responsibility
Students are solely responsible for the technology issued to them and must agree to the following:
Responsibility for Electronic Data
Chromebook apps and Google extensions are made available by teacher request only and will be installed by Bay Area Christian School IT staff. Students are responsible for backing up their data to protect from loss.
Users of BACS technology have no rights, ownership, or expectation of privacy to any data that is, or was, stored on a Chromebook, school network, or any school issued device, application, or school-governed Google Workspace account. There is no guarantee that data will be retained or destroyed.
Parents
Students will be issued an individual account through Google Workspace for Education. School administration will maintain security of the password and student use of the account will be monitored. There should be no expectation of privacy or data retention with regard to school-issued Google accounts.
In addition, because the Internet can help teachers and students foster connections with people in the community and around the world, video conferencing may be used in our school for benefits including expanding the learning that occurs in the classroom. Utilizing these modes of communication -- voice, text and video -- also provides students with the opportunity to experience learning through different media.
Spare Equipment and Lending
If a student’s Chromebook is inoperable, the school has a limited number of spare devices for use while the student’s Chromebook is repaired or replaced. This agreement remains in effect for loaner computers.
If a student does not bring his/her Chromebook to school, the student may be required to phone home to have a parent/guardian bring the Chromebook or borrow a device from the school based on direction from his/her teacher. Repeated instances of forgetting a Chromebook will result in a discipline penalty.
Lost or Stolen Chromebooks
Loss or theft of the device is also the student’s responsibility and will result in the student being charged the full replacement cost to purchase a new device. Students should not leave Chromebooks in an unsupervised area. Unsupervised Chromebooks found on campus will be confiscated by staff.
Warranty and Support
The school will repair or replace damaged equipment due to normal usage or unavoidable accidents. If the unit is under manufacturer warranty, it may be sent in for repair depending on the defect or issue. Repair or replacement costs associated with breakage and damages deemed as willful abuse or neglect will be the responsibility of the student.
Broken Chromebooks remain the property of the school and will not be returned to students when a replacement is issued.
The school will make its best attempt to purchase replacement parts at the best possible price.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHROMEBOOK TO AN OUTSIDE COMPUTER SERVICE FOR ANY TYPE OF REPAIR OR MAINTENANCE.
Possible Consequences of Violations
Student Technology Insurance
